Edward “Tim” George O’Brien, 84, died Jan. 8 at the North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea. Born in Brooklyn, he was the hotel general manager for Rock Resorts in the Virgin Islands, and a U.S. Navy veteran. Private services will be held. Survived by wife, Mari O’Brien of Waikoloa; son, Robert (Cathy) O’Brien of Michigan; daughters, Kathy (Keith) Kent of Maine, Karyn Mashima of New York; sister, Rita Alexander of Florida; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Masao Gusukuma, 84, of Pepeekeo, died Jan. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ninole, he was a retired mechanic from Hilo Coast Processing Company, ILWU Union Insurance agent, U.S. Army veteran, and member of Honomu Hongwanji Mission, Hui Okinawa, and ILWU Local 142. Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo. Funeral Service at 5 p.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Yoshiko Gusukuma of Pepeekeo; son, Curtis Gusukuma of Pepeekeo; brother, Masanobu (Yoshiko) Gusukuma of Kailua, Oahu; sisters, Toshiko Uchima of Laupahoehoe, Sally Hiroko Nagata and Yasu Sugiyama of Hilo; brother-in-law, Gary Shigeru Aoyama of Aiea, Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews. Millicent Maile Yong Hee Kim, 75, of Ashland, Ore., formerly of Hawaii Island, died Aug. 23 at her home. No services planned.

Ferdinand “Ferdie” Rallonza Llaguno, 64, of Pepeekeo died Jan. 3 at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in the Philippines, he was a steward at Hilton Waikoloa Village and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Friends may call Monday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Robert “Bob” Charles Matthews Jr., 67, died Jan. 11 at his home in Kailua-Kona. Born in Los Angeles, he retired as an electronic manufacturing operations manager at TRW in Redondo Beach, Calif, was a past member of the Paradise Fishing Club, owner of the “BadBuoy” fishing boat and an avid fisherman. Celebration of life from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at 74-5081 Kai Opua St., Kailua-Kona. Survived by wife, Shirley Matthews of Kailua-Kona; son, Robert (Angie) Matthews of Encinitas, Calif.; daughter, Stacy (Ryan) Horton of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Ron (June) Walker of Phoenix; sister, Donna (Wes) Hickish of Pinon Hills, Calif.; grandson, Derek Horton of Ft. Worth, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Teruko Naramoto, 91, died Jan. 14 at St. Francis Hospice Puiwa on Oahu. Born in Kalopa-Hamakua, she was a retired self-employed florist at Bea’s Flower Shoppe.
